Le Dumont d’Urville was built by Norwegian shipbuilder Vard. Measuring 430 feet long and 59 feet wide, with a gross tonnage of 9,976 and 92 cabins, it stands in contrast to giant cruise liners. It carries only 184 guests and 118 crew members—an impressive 1.5 guests per crew member ratio.

From Brittany and the Norwegian fjords to the Caribbean, the Great Lakes, Canada, and beyond, Le Dumont d’Urville offers unique and immersive itineraries. Onboard experts and naturalist guides provide enriching commentary that goes far beyond sightseeing. Whether docked or at anchor, guests can explore on land and sea through Zodiac® outings, kayaking, or paddleboarding—getting up close with nature and local cultures.
While at sea, the ship offers full relaxation amenities: a spa, hammam, hair salon, fitness center, art gallery, kids' club, theater, swimming pool, and boutique—providing wellness, leisure, and culture for all guests.
Le Dumont d’Urville features two restaurants: a gourmet restaurant on Deck 4 with menus curated by Michelin-starred chef Alain Ducasse and a refined wine selection, and a more casual grill restaurant on Deck 3.
The ship’s main lounge includes a dance floor and a terrace, ideal for enjoying a drink and relaxing. A smaller bar near the pool offers beverages, tea, and coffee.
On Deck 1, the Blue Eye lounge allows guests to observe marine life through whale eye-shaped portholes and to hear underwater sounds using hull-mounted sensors.
Le Dumont d’Urville features 92 staterooms and suites in four categories: Prestige, Deluxe, Privilege, and the Owner’s Suite. Staterooms offer 205 square feet of space, while suites range from 290, 345, 409, and up to 484 square feet.
Each accommodation is refined and fully equipped with individual climate control, satellite TV, minibar, iPod docking station, desk with stationery, vanity, safe, satellite phone, 220V outlets, and unlimited Wi-Fi. The toilet is separate from the bathroom, which features Hermès bath and beauty products and a hairdryer.
Le Dumont d’Urville is packed with technology aimed at minimizing its environmental impact. Like all Ponant Explorers-class ships, it has earned the “Cleanship” label from Bureau Veritas. Whether sailing or exploring, Ponant applies rigorous environmental standards to protect the ecosystems it visits.
Thanks to a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, the ship significantly reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. It’s also equipped with shore power connectivity, allowing it to plug into local electrical grids in compatible ports—greatly reducing emissions while docked.
